Found (Writing Challenge Day 6)
(a preview of my CW 180 work in stageplay)
Two tribal men are running through a dense jungle.
RAY
This way.
KRIS
Bastard.
RAY
This way.
KRIS
You know this how?
RAY
I know this trail.
KRIS
Unlike you, the jungle’s breath grows.
RAY
But I know this rock.
KRIS
Do not pretend to know anything about this jungle.
RAY
Was it that long?
KRIS
I do not know how time passes in the city. But here? Centuries.
RAY
It couldn’t have –
KRIS
Do not. Do not even say you couldn’t have known. The Albularyos and the Babaylans begged you not to go. You knew how close the imperial robots were. They begged you not to go. Hell – the whole town begged you not to go.
RAY
Kris, I –
KRIS
I begged you not to go.
RAY
This isn’t about you and me, Kris.
KRIS
You’re right. This is about the tribe you’ve abandoned, the tribe you want to return to.
RAY
I can only apologize so many times. The Albularyos and the Babaylans have forgiven me. Why can’t you?
KRIS
They have forgotten. I am not that easy, Ray. Or do you prefer Scimitar now?
RAY
It’s Ray. It’s always been Ray. Scimitar was stupid name I gave myself down there.
KRIS
Stupid is right.
RAY
We can argue all we want or we can finish the beast once and for all.
KRIS
We could, if you could just stop leading us astray!
RAY
I was your commander once, Kris.
KRIS
And I respected you then. Now, I am the commander of this village.
RAY
Yet, the beast lives.
Kris remains silent.
RAY
What beast of man or monster has delayed you, Kris? You were my fiercest warrior, my strongest ally.
KRIS
We have the lost hope, Ray. We have lost the tribe. Our strength, our will.
RAY
But you’re warriors. We’re warriors!
KRIS
You left us naked when we needed you most, fled to the big city, left the tribe, the families. Left me! For what, Ray? For what?
RAY
We’re getting into this now? What do I have to do with that?
KRIS
You were our commander, Ray! We fell! We were defeated! We a race of warriors, mages, defeated! We could have had them, Ray. We could have fallen our foes then and there, instead you left.
RAY
We live the lives we’re supposed to live.
KRIS
The greatest fool of which was me.
RAY
(putting his hand on Kris’ shoulder)
Kris. I’m back now. For good. For better, in fact.
(beat)
Kris? Kris! Kris. Hey, Kris?
KRIS
What?
RAY
Pa-kiss.
KRIS
That won’t work anymore.
A LITERARY DEVICE enters and forces them to have gratuitous graphic gay tribal sex.
(Just kidding, regarding the last part 😛 )
