Freak (Writing Challenge Day 8)
RINGLEADER
How amazing were the trapeze artists, ladies and gentlemen! Another round of applause to the Flying Palancas! Indeed, what grace and poise. But, now, it is the grand finale of our show. Our lawyers did not want this shown to you. It is too much, they said. Too much? But this is the circus! Bring out the freak!
A teenage boy in gold speedos wheels in a cage covered with a pink cloth.
RINGLEADER
Do not fret, ladies and gentlemen! Do not be disturbed! Don’t worry, we fed him today!
BOY IN GOLD SPEEDOS
Actually, sir —
RINGLEADER
Well, we fed him sometime. I’m sure he’s not hungry. Or at least hungry enough to kill us. Now, boy, when I say go, remove the cloth! And let the audience see the vileness of this circus.
BOY IN GOLD SPEEDOS
Are you sure, sir? It’s been quite a while. The beast is restless.
RINGLEADER
Of course, I’m sure. This beast is not new to being paraded in public in a cage. In fact, it likes to be caged! It likes to be presented to a willing audience. And you are such a willing audience, aren’t you? Aren’t you?
BOY IN GOLD SPEEDOS
But, sir —
RINGLEADER
Enough now, or I won’t buy you those silver speedos you want. Now, on the count of three, remove the cloth. One. Two. Three.
The boy in gold speedos removes the cloth. Inside is a human mannequin.
