It Had To Be You
through the girth of the
earth, I swam and skidooed,
just to end up with you:
taverns leapt and mountains
crushed, steady and
yearning, to search
and not to seek: the
answer was never to
be found: it had to
find me. every
maiden seen and
house inspected and
none have I noticed
a freckle as wonderful
as what lies
on your cheek

This is the 100 Songs Project, a 100-day writing challenge based on AFI’s 100 Years…100 Songs. Every day, I write a short poem, prose piece, or play based on, reacting to, rejecting, accepting, or doing something related to one of the songs in the top 100 list.

Great piece. I particularly enjoyed the imagery of the last four lines.
Thank you for the great comments! 🙂
