Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)
I sealed my heart in a bottle
and watched the beating waves
of the Atlantic bear it across:
Six years later, I remain vigilant
by the shores, never batting an
eyelid or resting my sea-worn
legs against the protruding rocks,
believing that someone, somewhere,
past the crashing waves and the
killer sharks and the savage pirate
with one arm, my heart will land
gently against my true love’s feet;
’til then I clutch my cloak around
my bony frame a little bit tighter
and gaze romantic at the beautiful
murderer, the ocean.

This is the 100 Songs Project, a 100-day writing challenge based on AFI’s 100 Years…100 Songs. Every day, I write a short poem, prose piece, or play based on, reacting to, rejecting, accepting, or doing something related to one of the songs in the top 100 list.
