I Could Have Danced All Night
The last glimpse of slight light,
as images of superheroes and
soirees blur — and allow the strange
sandman inside your room,
where he crawls beside
you: elsewhere the DJ shifts
to metal and varying hues of purple
hair bounce against flickering
lasers: and in another
world, you’d be purple-headed
and pulsing, shooting
and puking and laughing —
nothing to recall but the hickey
and hangover as pumped feet
drag themselves to work — but not
tonight, not tonight
you sleep soundly
with your own beats

This is the 100 Songs Project, a 100-day writing challenge based on AFI’s 100 Years…100 Songs. Every day, I write a short poem, prose piece, or play based on, reacting to, rejecting, accepting, or doing something related to one of the songs in the top 100 list.
